Daniel Koch

Daniel is a tutor for high school / college math and physics courses.

He works at Hunter College, on the Upper East Side, as a Physics Lab instructor as well as attends classes as a grad student at The Graduate Center. He posseses over 4 years of tutoring experience, in all levels of math ranging from Algebra through Calculus, and beyond. As a Physics Ph.D student, he has gained exposure to many different specialized subjects of math, and feels confident tutoring numerous college math courses, even spanning into upper division and major courses. In addition, if beginning computer coding is a skill that you are seeking help in, Daniel is fluent in Python and can teach you the basics.

Our Approach

We don’t use tricks or gimmicks in our approach to teaching, but rather emphasize a thorough understanding of the subject. This approach allows students to build confidence and succeed in their coursework.

High schools, universities, and other educational establishments, are often overcrowded. Instructors don’t have adequate time or means to to present class material properly and effectively. Students often struggle because they are left to work on their own with little or no guidance.

Algebraic Groups

One of the most fundamental algebraic structures in mathematics is the group. A group is a set of elements paired with an operation that satisfies the following four conditions:

I. It is closed under an operation (represented here by “+”, although it does not necessarily mean addition): For all elements a and b in the set S, a+b is also in S.
II. It contains an identity element (often written as “e”): There is some element e in the set S such that for every element a in S, a+e = e+a = a.
III. The operation is associative: For all a, b, and c in the set S, (a+b)+c = a+(b+c).
IV. Inverses exist: For every element a in the set S, there is an a-1 in S such that a+a-1 = a-1+a = e
